FAQ

Where does my money go?

How many sponsors does each child, tween, or teen have?

It costs an average of $300 per month, per youth to cover the comprehensive care provided at Rehema Home. Our basic sponsorship begins at $30 per month, so at that giving level, we hope to secure ten sponsors per youth to cover all of their necessities. We do, however, give sponsors the option to sponsor a child, tween, or teen at a higher level, if they so choose. We believe that the more people supporting our youth the better!

Can I send gifts to my child, tween, or teen?

Yes! Gifts can be mailed but they must be sent in a padded 9” by 12” envelope. Anything larger than this will require Rehema Home to incur a customs charge. Gifts must be low in cost, as they may be lost, damaged, or stolen.

Gifts that are brought in person by a sponsor should be approved by the Rehema Home missionaries. There are certain cultural nuances we have to navigate and all gifts may not be appropriate. Please inform the Rehema Home US office or our missionaries if a child, tween, or teen has asked for any particular gift.

You are always welcome to make an additional donation to our Birthday Fund or Christmas Fund. Each child, tween, or teen gets extra birthday hugs and a special treat for their birthday. At Christmas, we purchase gifts for all of our youth.

What happens if I must discontinue my sponsorship?

How long does my sponsorship last?

At Rehema Home, our vision is to bring up youth who will be socially adjusted with high morals and integrity to become leaders and good examples to their fellow Kenyans. To that end, we are committed to the long-term care of our youth and their eventual integration into society as adults. For the sake of relational continuity, we encourage sponsors to commit to sponsoring a child, tween, or teen as long as they are able.

Occasionally, circumstances change, and a child, tween, or teen may be adopted, return to their family, or otherwise need to leave Rehema Home. Should this occur, we would inform you. At that time you would have the opportunity to redirect your financial sponsorship to another child, tween, or teen if you wished to do so.

How can I communicate with my child, tween, or teen?

You are welcome to send an email or a letter. Please check your sponsorship packet for the email address or the mailing address.

You can easily keep up with the latest news and happenings at Rehema Home by subscribing to our e-newsletter or following us on social media (Facebook and Instagram).

What specific benefits will the child, tween, or teen I sponsor receive?

The child, tween, or teen you sponsor receives comprehensive care. We are proud of the level of care we provide—a safe and stable living environment, milk and meals, medical care and medication, education, clothes and shoes, and transportation.

Moreover, we are proud to provide a good quality of life based on Christian values. The attention and mentoring given by our missionaries and Kenyan staff ensure that our youth live in a real Home, as opposed to an Institution.

What do you tell the child, tween, or teen about being sponsored?

We tell the youth that there are people who live in another part of the world who care for them and want them to succeed. We will let them know that there is an opportunity to communicate with their sponsor. If a sponsor needs to end their sponsorship, we focus on the positives and let the child, tween, or teen know that they now have the opportunity to make a new friend with a different sponsor.

Will I hear from my child, tween, or teen?

Yes! They will send you letters (or artwork) and an updated photo in the mail annually. You will see their personalities come out in their notes and notice how much they have changed through the photos. We encourage you to keep a file with all the communications so you can look through the file from time to time. You will have a better understanding of how to encourage and pray for them as you begin to recognize their interests, challenges, and aspirations.
